Textures Interior Design Trends 2013

As the color stylist and trend analyst for Dunn-EdwardsPaints, I am constantly researching and reporting the latest in design and color for our customers, specifically to our design professionals through our blog called specs+spaces With an eye towards the future, while also minding the everyday design and color dilemmas designers and architects face, here is an expanded view on one of the four color trend stories in our 2013 trends report titled Simply A New Renaissance 2013.
This story is inspired by the similarity of past and present events in America, first the late 19th Century Industrial Age, which first began in Britain then on to America. The late 19th Century Industrial Age is defined as a time of technological innovation and invention in America. The present series of events impress upon us how similar events today are to this past era; everything old is new again! From current social changes, to the continuing the thread of social discontent, and mixed with technical and scientific innovations all lead to this rediscovery of an industrial age for our time, Simply RE-invented.

To support this story, several findings provide proof. Modern, technical innovations, both digital and scientific, have paved the way for a new urban lifestyle, and in turn a new aesthetic. And, as manufacturing regains a key role in America, consumers are looking to modern technical innovations to ensure a positive future. In sustainable terms, we have a need as a society to exploit the world’s natural resources to power our technologies while simultaneously acknowledging they are finite.
